On February 1, 2005, the televsion and cable channels in Nepal went blank.  A solitary channel was left operating, on which a pre-recorded message from the king was braodcast throughout the day.  Before he finished his announcement all communications within and outside Nepal were cut.  Telephones went dead.  Internet servers were powered down indefinitlety.  Flights into the country were rerouted.  And the democratically elected government was placed under house arrest.  The king had taken over.  Though freedom of the Nepali press was revoked, these are the following weeks worth on international headlines deadicated to the coup in Nepal.

The king claimed this was an "emergency".  - Not a coup.
