yet another budgeting
panic |
|
my
forthcoming rtw trip visits the following places:
- india
- south east asia (thailand, malaysia, singapore, laos, vietnam,
cambodia)
- australia
- new zealand
- fiji
- usa
i'm going for about 10 months with about 7 or 8 months of it being
in the cheaper evironments of india and se asia. what do the
lovely people on the lp messageboard think to 4000 british pounds
as my budget (excluding flights)? I really will be roughing it for
the trip, stopping just short of camping, but i'm having a bit of
a panic about getting enough cash together before i leave.
so what do you think? will 4000 grand suffice?
thanks in advance. |

it
really does depend on how long you're going to spend in each
country. for example, for australia and nz you're looking at a
budget of around 20usd per day (looked at over a weekly period
including transport). for south east asia, around 10usd per day.
india, 5usd per day at a guess. fiji i'm not too sure but a friend
backpakked around there recently and spend 30-40 per day simply
because its not really catered for pakkas. usa i've no idea but i
know its expensive.
to be honest mate, you're packing a hell of a lot in there for
such a short time travelling. just the south east asia thing alone
will take you two months. australia you could easily spend 3
months, no less than two months would be a wste of time. india -
again no less than 6 weeks. america - like australia, you could
have six months there and still not see half.
one thing i've really learnt in the last four years of travel is
that you'll get more out of your trip if you spend more time in
fewer places. that way you don't feel like such a tourist. you
actually start feeling what lifes like in another country.

Just
get as much money as possible together and head off. No reason to
worry. If money starts running low you just change the dates on
your RWT and speed up. Besides, you're starting in the cheap
countries and ending in the most expensive - ideal!

Id
say sensible per day budgets are in USD:
India $15
SEA $20
Aus/NZ $30
US $40
Fiji $25
People tend to giove u iunderestaimates as they think about costs
a few years ago when they went, but prices have risen
